Magic Monitor Application for version 8.3 This is an enhanced version of the Magic Monitor program that has been included in all version 8 releases of Magic. As pointed out in a Magic email group, the Magic Monitor for version 8.30 ships with certain bugs, which hamper its functionality. Several individuals were nice enough to post some of the bugs with suggestions on how to fix them. I have taken those suggestions as well as some of my own and fixed the bugs that I know of. I also added a couple of enhancements as well. At the moment it is freely download able from our Seattle Magic Users Group website (a portion of the Trillium Custom Software website currently). If you would like to get a copy check out http://www.trillium-sw.com/smug.htm and look for the Download link. If you find any other bugs, and email me with details, I will consider fixing them and reposting them to our download location. I invite Magic to take this version and include it, or another fixed version, in future Patches for version 8.3. In posting this to the Web I am not trying to take ownership of this application. Its just that this program or an equivalent one is an integral part of maintaining a Magic 8.30 based website and as such the bugs needed to be fixed! ========================= VERSION HISTORY ========================= BUGS FIXED 11/04/1999: BASICALLY the changes in functions for version 8.3 where not fully taken into account in this version of the Monitor. Two examples of these are: Did not deal correctly with the new passwords for Brokers which Magic added in version 8.3. This resulted in being unable to execute certain Broker requests including: Starting or Stopping a new Engine, and Clearing a Request from the Queue Did not handle the range of records in the Request Queue. This resulted in seeing only the last request in the queue. ENHANCEMENTS ADDED 11/04/1999: Since Request Queue can have a very large history I added a mechanism to allow the user to select the quantity of queued records to receive. So instead of bogging down the broker with the task of returning the entire queue the user can select the number of queue records to return (most recent first). Added a Manual Refresh option so that you poll the Broker at your discretion rather than at specific intervals. Added an online screen to see a summarize view of the records in the current queue. Enhanced the Properties view of the Broker or Service being used. Added an output report that prints either a summary or detail report of the current queue that is ordered by either Program Name or Host Name. ENHANCEMENTS ADDED 11/14/1999: Added new option to Print Queue report to supress subtotal level of report details. Added new subtask to Print Queue report that only has summary level that shows how many requests and failures occured during specific hours. Based on Hour Submitted. CHANGES ON 11/25/1999: Export app and import for version 8.30 Service Pack 2 Submit bug reports for this version to my email address below. Thanks Dale Schuppenhauer Trillium Custom Software, Inc.
